Rockport Shoes

The father and son team of Saul and Bruce Katz founded Rockport shoes in 1971 in Massachusetts. Their vision of manufacturing a shoe that was not only light, ultra-comfortable and durable (as well as stylish!) was successfully accomplished and since that day has continued to be improved upon. The company was bought out by Reebok in 1984 and subsequently by Adidas. Rockport shoes are still located in Massachusetts.

The company that Saul and Bruce Katz created is still in the business today of producing sandals, loafers, lace up and slip on shoes, as well as boots - for not only men and women, but for children as well. Probably the most well known shoe produced by this company is the Walker, which is a durable walking shoe with a hard bottom. Rockport shoes are also well known for using Vibram soles which grip surfaces exceptionally well and provide stability to the wearer as well as comfort.

Rockport shoes are noted for several features besides the Vibram sole; the DMX technology is one feature that allows for cushions of air in the shoe sole that acts to reduce the impact of a step to the wearer's feet, thus producing a more comfortable walking experience. Rockport Shoes also use Walk Dry, a water resistant surface technology that not only prevents water from getting to the foot of the wearer but also allows the boot to breathe or exchange air.

Rockport is well known for being in the forefront of technological advances in the shoe industry, as they have been since the company was founded in 1971, and as they will continue to be, far into the future.

Rockport shoes have been worn by marathon runners as well as climbers and are sought after as boat shoes by boat racing enthusiasts. They are sold in more than 30 countries all around the world and remain one of the more affordable brands on the market today, ranging from approximately $40 to about $150 per pair, from sandals to boots. If you are looking for elaborate, high fashion shoes, you will not find them in existence at Rockport. This company believes in making the best and most comfortable shoe, and fashion is not as important as fit. These shoes will last you for a very long time and your feet will thank you!

-----------------
Rockport shoes was first founded in 1971 in Marlborough, Massachusetts. They were based on the fact that there was a need for more lightweight, comfortable and classic looking shoes. Since their inception they have evolved with the times but their quality has never changed.

When Rockport shoes were first founded, its founders -- Saul and Bruce Katz, were the first shoemakers to use new technology and materials to create lightweight walking, dress and casual wear shoes. In 1984, when Reebok purchased Rockport, they were able to further their use of footwear technologies, incorporating athletic shoe advances in their walking and formal shoes. One of Rockport's most popular technological advances in footwear is their DMX technology. This technology, which was designed by engineers and scientists, gives the feel of walking on air by creating cushions of air in the soles and insoles of the shoe. This technology cushions your foot with every step.
